Factorio 2.1 is stable (23 October 2026)
The current stable headless release is 2.1.23: Wube marked 2.1 stable on 23 October 2026, and experimental carries the same build. A 2.0 save loads in 2.1 but cannot be taken back to 2.0 afterwards, and 2.1 will not start with a mod still marked for 2.0, so back up the save and update or remove those mods before the server moves. A group that is not ready can stay on 2.0.77, which Steam keeps as a beta branch and factorio.com still serves for the headless server. The 2.1 server guide has the details.
For every update, pin the server and clients to the same version, check the mod portal for matching releases, and keep a restorable save backup. Performance results from an experimental build should not be presented as stable-server guarantees.
